The blacked-out limited edition of the football shirt that put a grassroots club in the V&A.

In a world-first collaboration between a museum and a football club, Wood Street Walls brought together the William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow FC and British sportswear manufacturer Admiral. Full access to the Gallery's archive allowed the design team to explore its collection of textiles and wallpapers, digitally re-drawing and colour-matching an original William Morris pattern to be sublimated onto the shirt, taking over a hundred hours of research and design.

The Blackout is the limited tonal edition from that collaboration. It carries the same archival Morris pattern, rendered entirely in black on black, so the design reveals itself only in certain light.

The kit from this collaboration won a D&AD award and is held in the V&A's permanent collection.
